Day 05

Tuesday 27 September 2016

The Cultural tour students will leave Edinburgh and drive west crossing the border into England at Gretna Green. Later the group will visit the Lake District – a scenic region of mountains and lake which inspired some of England’s best known and great romantic poets like William Wordsworth, Samuel Coleridge and Thomas de Quincey as well as children’s authors like Beatrix Potter.  Cultural students will stop for lunch. In the afternoon, the coach will drive south to Manchester where students will visit the iconic Imperial War Museum and view a timeline of the conflicts that Britain and the Commonwealth have been involved in since the First World War. They will spend the next two nights at the Manchester YHA.  The Sporting tour group will enjoy a thrilling day out at one of the UK’s favourite theme parks – the Blackpool Pleasure Beach for a day of white knuckle rides, screaming and plenty of fun. In the evening, the Sporting students will board the coach and return to Haworth YHA.

*Sporting*

Today we made our way to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. To get there, we drove our way through the Moors, the beautiful country side which inspired Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. We arrived in Blackpool in the wet and shuffled inside still a little sore and tired from the game yesterday. However, once inside and on the rides, spirits went up, the clouds cleared and we all had a great day. Blackpool Pleasure Beach has some exciting rollercoasters, fun rides and plenty of greasy deep fried food (my doughnuts tasted like fish – cooked in the same oil??)
